The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is an international organization associating professionals from the TFL industry. The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport currently associates over 34,000 members from over 100 countries around the world.

 

 

The institute was founded in Great Britain in 1919 and its patron is the duchess Anna Mountbatten-Windsor. In 2012, CILT (UK)-Polska was established in Wrocław, Poland as the only accredited branch of the Institute in this part of Europe.

 

 

The main goal of CILT is to promote and support the science of logistics and transport. This goal is achieved through an active membership of academics and industry professionals, as well as through the offered opportunities to improve professional qualifications. The membership in CILT guarantees professional prestige as well as international contacts in the logistics and transport sectors. The members of the Institute are both professionals in managerial positions and people who start their professional career in the TFL industry. In addition, the Institute has been conducting intensive activities in the field of logistic education for many years, both for large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises. CILT also supports the logistical activities of charitable organizations.

 

 

About the Convention

 

 

Between 3 and 6 June 2018, the CILT International Convention (The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport) 2018 took place for the first time in Poland.

 

 

The CILT International Convention was a meeting of the most influential people related to logistics and transport from over 40 countries around the world. This prestigious event attracts not only members of CILT, but also representatives of governments, professionals and scientists from the TFL industry from all continents who during CILT conferences make decisions that have a significant impact on shaping the future of the logistics and transport industry.

 

 

The convention also includes representatives of CILT structures, i.e.Young Professionals (YP), an organization dedicated to professionals up to 35 years of age, and WILAT (Women in Logistics and Transport), an organization associating women involved in shaping the future of global logistics.

 

 

The Convention is a cyclical event. CILT members meet each year in one of the member countries to jointly make decisions affecting the development of the logistics and transport industry.

 

 

The previous conventions were held, among others in London, Malta, Sri Lanka, Montreal, Dubai and Macao.

 

 

The CILT branches from Australia, Ireland and Nigeria also competed for the possibility of organizing the Convention this year, but the CILT Management Board chose Wroclaw as the venue for the Convention in 2018. The place of the sessions was the Double Tree by Hilton hotel.

 

 

The co-organizer of the Convention was the International University of Logistics and Transport in Wrocław.The Rector of this university, Dr Marcin Pawęska is also the founder of CILT (UK) structures in Poland, as the only accredited Institute center in Central and Eastern Europe. The International University of Logistics and Transport is also the only university in Poland that has the accreditation of this British Institute for undergraduate, engineering and MA studies in the field of Logistics. The IULT, meeting the highest criteria related to CILT accreditation, provides its graduates with a certificate with which they can aspire to be employed by the best employers around the world.

 

 

Summary

 

 

The CILT Convention is a unique event on a global scale, during which once a year the most important events facing the logistics industry are discussed. The similar discussion was held in 2018. Between June 3 and 6, at the invitation of CILT and the International University of Logistics and Transport in Wrocław, 250 leading logistics specialists from over 40 countries gathered to discuss new technologies related to the revolution in electric and autonomous cars and to judge how to develop logistics in Central and Eastern Europe. Speakers included such famous logisticians as Prof. David Cebon from Cambridge University, Prof. Richard Wilding from Cranfield School of Management, Prof. Rene de Koster from Rotterdam School of Management, Prof. Kim Hassall from Melbourne University and Prof. Lyu Zhongda from Ningbo University of Technology. During the Convention, a number of agreements were signed with universities from Central and Eastern Europe, whose aim is mutual cooperation between CILT and the scientific environment.

 

 

The CILT International Convention, as a prestigious event gathering global authorities, is a mine of knowledge about the trends and aspirations of the logistics industry, which is the driving force of the economy in every region, in every country, on every continent. Participation in the International Convention is also an opportunity to get to know the city and region that is hosting the event in a given year. Delegates from all over the world come to participate in industry meetings and lectures, but also to get to know the new place and culture of the country organizing the Convention.
