INAUGURATION OF THE 2026/2027 ACADEMIC YEAR

On 5 October 2026, the solemn inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year took place at the Western University in Wrocław. It was an exceptionally important moment for the entire academic community, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the university’s history and setting the direction for its further development.

The ceremony was opened by the Rector, Dr Adam Świątek, who welcomed representatives of the academic community, staff members, students, and invited guests. The presence of numerous guests from Poland and abroad added special significance to the event and highlighted its importance for the university community. The ceremony was also attended by representatives of VIZJA University and Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University, which, like the Western University in Wrocław, are members of the VIZJA University Scientific Federation.

One of the key moments of the inauguration was the appointment of the new university authorities and the presentation of official appointment certificates. The following individuals took up their positions:

• Vice-Rector – Dr hab. Agnieszka Łukaszczuk-Walter, Professor at the Western University in Wrocław
• Dean – Dr Eng. Michał Kruszyński
• Vice-Dean – Dr Jacek Karcz
• Vice-Dean – Karolina Stępień, MA

During the ceremony, Marzena Godlewska, Director General of VIZJA University, delivered an address as a representative of the university’s founder.

The inaugural lecture, entitled The University in the West: The Memory of Place and Responsibility for the Future, was delivered by Vice-Rector Dr hab. Agnieszka Łukaszczuk-Walter, Professor at the Western University in Wrocław. The lecture was the academic highlight of the programme, reflecting the university tradition of marking the beginning of a new academic year with a scholarly address.

A particularly significant moment was the tribute paid to Janusz Pawęska, who served as President of International University of Logistics and Transport in Wrocław. Appreciation and gratitude were expressed for his commitment and contribution to the university’s development. This tribute was a mark of respect for his work on behalf of the institution, whose achievements provide a foundation for the continued development of the Western University in Wrocław.

Michalina Radziwiłłowicz, President of the Student Council, addressed the audience on behalf of the student community. In her speech, she welcomed the participants of the inauguration, extending special greetings to first-year students and congratulating them on choosing the university and embarking on a new stage of their educational journey.

The inauguration of the 2026/2027 academic year was both a ceremonial and symbolic occasion. It brought together recognition of past achievements and the beginning of a new stage in the university’s activities. It also provided an opportunity for members of the academic community to meet friends and partners from Poland and abroad.
